What is the significance of the Christmas tree to Christians?

  • The shape is a triangle – signifying the trinity and pointing up to God.
  • Evergreen – eternal life
  • The needles grow upward like hands praising God.

What a lovely tradition the Christmas tree is!

One of my favorite posts it from last year between Thanksgiving and Christmas. This was my 2nd blog post and it was really short and simple. From December 18, 2008:

Magical Times

The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is a magical time. It is when we turn our thoughts from our everyday lives and reflect on our blessings. It is when we make an effort to spend time with friends and family. It is when we decorate our homes with trees and lights and ribbons. It is when we become like children again believing in wonderful things, like, God as the Christ child, peace on earth, love for one another and hope. It truly is a time that we should keep in our hearts year round.

That tree is amazing! I apparently really need to add more lights to my tree. I thought for a 7.5ft tree nine strands would be enough, but now I’m thinkin’ I’m wrong! Beautiful!!!

And I love why Christians have Christmas trees. Great points!

Hi Christi…

Oooh…I love your pretty Christmas tree! What a fabulous post to reshare with all of us, my friend! You know, I have never heard of the symbolism behind the Christmas tree before! I just loved this and I will certainly look at all Christmas trees a little differently now! Thank you for sharing this with us!!! I absolutely agree about this being a “magical” time! I love all the “hustle bustle” of the season…and I really love all of the pretty decor but most of all…I’m so thankful that God the Father sent His Son, Jesus…the real reason for the season…to our world that we might be saved!!!

I hope that you have a wonderful week and Christmas season, my friend! Thank you so much for joining in with Sunday Favorites this week…what a sweet treat to find out what the Christmas tree symbolizes!!!

Warmest wishes,
Chari
PS…so sorry that I’m so late in getting by, we had to go out of town yesterday and I didn’t make it back home till very late!

Also, someone – - – possibly Martin Luther – - – was coming home on Christmas eve and saw the moon shining on the newly fallen snow on a small pine, and was so touched by it’s beauty he brought it in for his family and put candles on it – - – at least so I’ve heard.
