The silence was amazing, and the ice was beautiful as it glistened in the sunlight, but it was hard! I had three little kids at the time so we had to go to relatives for a week until power returned. Just think - it has only been in the last 100 years or so that we have had all these things we think we can't live without now. Some of them are much newer. I think I would be lost without my computer, but I know I would adjust. Thank you for this thoughtful post. It is nice when neighbors get together as a unit. I think I would miss my fridge the most. I can cook with gas or on the barbecue, laundry sucks at the best of times. I also have gas for the fireplace. Oh but the computer, what would I do without that. One of the main reasons I don't go to the cabin for more than 2 days. No internet there.
