Southern Wanderings

While we were away, we enjoyed some beautiful things. If you missed yesterday’s post about the goats, be sure to check that out!

Before the blizzard, we went out and saw some of the Christmas lights. Of course, we played Christmas music as we drove around looking at the lights. It just wouldn’t be the same without them.

There was even a Southern Belle light!

So, now we are back home and expecting a little bit of snow tonight. We have made the obligatory trip to the grocery store to stock up (we are expecting less than an inch – and may not even get any at all). Next task is to take down the Christmas decorations. I may leave them up until after New Year’s Eve and then take them down New Year’s Day. When do you take down your Christmas decorations?

Today’s Lagniappe:  Crockpot Praline Chicken
Festive and easy.

* 6 boneless skinless chicken breast halves
* 2 tablespoons creole seasoning
* 1/4 cup butter, melted
* 1/2 cup maple syrup
* 2 tablespoons brown sugar
* 1 cup pecans

1. Sprinkle seasoning on both sides of chicken and brown in butter over medium-high heat on top of stove.
2. Place browned chicken in slow cooker.
3. Mix together syrup, brown sugar, and pecans and pour over chicken.
4. Cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours.
5. Serve with wild or brown rice.

    Lovely winter scene! I wonder how long they will keep the decorations – they are a nice memory now

    …I am berried!

    Our son’s birthday is January 10th. Ever since he was very tiny, he has asked that we keep the tree up until after his birthday. Since we use an artificial tree (due to allergies and asthma in the family) we are able to honor this request. He will be 26 this year and we will still wait until after his birthday to take it down. Of course, this is part of the reason I refuse to decorate too early. 😉

    Those are beautiful Christmas lights! I usually take my decorations down on the day after New Year’s. Thanks for the recipe too. I’m always looking for different ways to cook chicken, and am definitely going to try this.

    Never heard of Praline Chicken before. Sounds like a good meal to serve this cold, snowy, winter in Illinois. Thanks for the recipe. Happy New Year from our house to your house.

    What beautiful lights! We do the Christmas light drive too! I was even out tonight finishing up a neighbourhood I hadn’t seen yet! My kids are all older now and they still want to go on their light drive! LOL! I am probably the first to have my decorations up and the last to take them down! It makes me sad! It’s over so quickly! Hope you have a wonderful 2010! And Happy New Year! Sherri : )

    I will be taking down m decorations on New Year’s Day. Or maybe I’ll wait until Sunday. We are having some friends over for New Year’s Eve, and our son and his family will be flying back to B’ham on New Year’s Day and stay until Sunday before driving home. May leave everything up for our grandson to enjoy.
