Southern Stroll in the Yard
We have had a lot of rain lately. This afternoon after the rain, I took a stroll through the yard and snapped a couple of pics for Outdoor Wednesday with A Southern Daydreamer.
Okay, so here we go for the stroll.

Here is another pic of the little robin teenager looking for worms. We are so glad that they have stuck around. Apparently, they will stay within 1/4 mile of the nest.

Here is the garden. A little soggy, but loving the rain.
Can’t wait to harvest some of the vegetables out of the garden. They are growing really fast. I usually already am able to harvest by this time but got a little bit of a late start this year.

I've had this for a long time. I just moved it to the veggie garden.

You can see the clover, as well as the veggies, love the rain.

Today’s Lagniappe: Rosemary Shortbread Cookies
This recipe is very similar to the Lemon Thyme Cookies, only with Rosemary. Hmmmm!
By the way, a friend asked what a lagniappe is – it is “a little something extra.”
- 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter
- 2/3 cup white sugar
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons white sugar for decoration
- In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and 2/3 cup of sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in the flour salt and rosemary until well blended. The dough will be somewhat soft. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees F). Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into rectangles 1 1/2×2 inches in size. Place cookies 1 inch apart on the lined cookie sheets. Sprinkle the remaining sugar over the tops.
- Bake for 8 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden at the edges. Cool on wire racks, and store in an airtight container at room temperature.

I bet your garden is loving the rain. How fun that the robins are staying close by. Shortbread cookies with rosemary…very interesting. I’ll have to try them when I’m in Washington and my rosemary bush :0)

I love your garden rock. My husband says he can always tell when I have something on my mind. I have a tendency to “work it out” in my flower beds!

Your garden is beautifully tended and your photos of it are wonderful. I’m glad your “teenager” didn’t fly to far from the nest. They are fascinating to watch. Blessings.

Good morning,
We’ve had more rain than previous Springs. We’ll need it if we have the droughts of previous years. Did you grow up having gardens like we did? For the paste 15 years, we’ve only been able to grow a few plants in pots or borders. Since moving to this house late last summer, we’ve planned to have a real garden this year. We’re starting small but it will probably be expanded in the future. I love the fresh veggies and can’t wait for that first tomato sandwich or fried green tomato.
Thanks for sharing on this outdoor Wednesday.

Love your garden. I keep saying that I’m going to start me one, but so far that hasn’t happened. My grandparents had a huge garden when I was growing up and I worked in it all summer. Maybe that’s why I don’t have one….

Your garden looks so neat and tidy with mulch between the rows. I’m curious to know what you’ve planted.
Fun to see your “foster robin”.

Your veggie garden looks so nice! We started digging up for one and the soil is so hard decided we need to go with a raised bed but haven’t figured out what to use for border so for right now my few veggies are in pots!

Hi Christi,
Your garden looks like it is doing great. I had a late start with my garden too. The cold weather first, then followed by all the rain. In the mountains of PA, we still had frost warning after mid May, this year.
Happy Gardening!

Well, what a nice little garden of veggies you have coming up! You’re going to be eating good and healthy. Isn’t it nice to have resident robins? Makes you feel safer I’m sure, as they will eat the bugs and harp at visitors!
